Something to share - Free Parking at Marina Bay Link Mall

Today, I had lunch at Cedele, Marina Bay Link Mall, found out that there is free parking for the first 4 hours. This is valid until 17th May 2011 for weekdays after 6pm, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. All you have to do is to produce a receipt at the Concierge Counter. What's best is that no minimum spending is required! I saw that the person in front of me only spent S$3.40 and the parking for Saturday is already S$3. I wish more malls will have this 'weekend free parking'. LOL.

I was also quite surprised to see an empty Ding Tai Fung. The branch that I usually patronise is Paragon and it is always very crowded and noisy. Next time I will visit the outlet at Marina Bay Link Mall instead. It was almost empty when we past by during lunch time! This place is great for a nice long lunch with couple of good friends. We also popped over to Apple shop which is just opposite Cedele; their ipads are sold out! Madness!

iPhone 4 in white

Having been a Nokia user for years, I have finally decided to switch to Apple. I made my online purchase at the Singtel shop today!!

And why iPhone 4 now?

Because I decided I shall not wait for iPhone 5 anymore. And the iPhone 4 in white is finally available! I love white - N95 N97 in WHITE, iPhone 3 in WHITE and now iPhone 4 in WHITE!! Okay, "white" is a girl thing (to most).

Counting down to 5/5/11! See! I even chose a nice date for my new toy!

Updated!
82 out of 87 seats in the Parliament will be contested! This is also the biggest battle in the polls since Singapore's independence.

R.I.P. Delly

The second CPU that had died on me. Delly had served me well for the past 4 or 5 years. Fortunately I had recently done a backup of the photos from Delly to Lenovo.

What would I do if I lost the photos?

Earthquake and Tsunami

I adore beach resorts. There was a period of time when my friends and I would choose beach resorts for our vacations. But now, no one seems to be interested anymore. One of my friends even rebutted, what if there is another tsunami.

My reply: CHOY!! (Quickly grab a piece of wood).

I studied Geography in school but I was never taught what a Tsunami is. Anyway after so many years, I can barely remember what causes an earthquake. Hmmm.. Something about the plates moving and colliding with each other right?

26 Dec 2004 was the first time I came across the term "Tsunami". It occurred in the Indian Ocean. The countries affected were Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives and eastern coast of Africa. Then some weeks ago, I chanced upon a documentary show about Tsunami on Channel 401. They showed live footage of the 2004 Tsunami. It was devastating to watch.

So, what causes a Tsunami? I asked google and this is his answer -
A tsunami is a large ocean wave that is caused by sudden motion on the ocean floor. Earthquake, volcanic eruptions, underwater explosions, landslide and other mass movements or disturbances above or below the water have the potential to generate a tsunami. Tsunamis travel across the open ocean at great speeds and build into large deadly waves in the shallow water of a shoreline.

Let's pray for a no-natural-disaster world.

Weekday carpark charges in Orchard

Something useful to share!

I am contemplating of running some errands at Orchard Road during one of the weekday afternoons, I wish to know the cheapest carpark. I googled and found this Carpark charges in Orchard. So I proceeded to calculate the cheapest carpark charge in Orchard on a weekday afternoon, assuming that I'll only need to park for 3 hours.

The most expensive carpark - Hilton Hotel
S$7 per hour until 5.59pm
Additional S$10 for valet parking
Total fee for 3 hours is S$21/-

The cheapest carpark - Scape Building
S$1.28 per hour from 7am to 4.59pm
Total fee for 3 hours is S$3.84
The downside is, this may be a little far if we are going to Wheelock Place/Scotts area.

The "worth the money" carpark - Tangs
If you are going to park for more than 3 hours, Tangs is cheaper because it goes by the per minute charge
S$0.05 per minute
For 3 hours, it costs S$9

And if we need to park for more than 5 hours, this is the place!! It is only S$15/- (for the whole day) until 5.59pm.

The most complicated parking charges goes to Ngee Ann City
1) Monday to Friday
12.01am to 12pm and 2.01pm to 5pm
S$1.28 per 30 mins or part thereoff

12.01pm to 2pm
S$1.82 per 30 mins or part thereof

5.01pm to 7pm
S$1.82 per 30 mins or part thereof

7.01pm to 12 am
S$4.28 per entry

2) Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays

12.01pm to 2pm and 5.01pm to 7pm
S$3.64 for first hour and S$2.14 for subsequent half hour

7.07pm to 12am
S$4.28 per entry

Lets pray for Japan

A month has past but new quakes still hit Japan! Japan has now expanded the evacuation zone around a crippled nuclear plant. (Read about it @ New quake hit Japan). Will you avoid food imported from Japan? I won't ; I will continue to eat my favourite sashimi. Eating their food is also one way of supporting them.

Shout out : Japan! Stand strong!

Dr Leslie did a writeup on radiation and food safety in Japan. It is a very concise and useful article. (Read about it @ http://www.ieatishootipost.sg/).

Let's support Japan by continuing to eat their food!

201009 Brisbane and Gold Coast

When you are in Brisbane, do drop by Moo Moo The Wine Bar and Grill Restaurant. Moo Moo serves Australian cuisine specialising in premium export quality beef. Besides steak, Moo Moo also serves oyster, fish, duck, chicken, pork and mutton. I strongly recommend the pork belly. It's yummylicious! Also check out their wide selection of wine!

I am not a fan of thrill rides hence we only visited Movie World.

201009 Melbourne

I miss having breakfast at Queen Victoria Market and watching the penguins emerging from the sea. We have to wait until the night falls. It was freezing C.O.L.D. but when the little penguins started appearing, I knew it was all worth it! This is their nightly ritual on Phillip Island. To protect the penguins, photography is strictly prohibited. Our itinerary for the second day in Melbourne - Churchill Island, Koala Conservation Centre and Phillip Island (penguin parade - Victoria's favourite attraction!)
On the third day, we visited Great Ocean Road and Port Campbell National Park where we marvelled at the stone pillars of the Twelve Apostles. It was too cold to focus so we ended up doing quick snaps instead.

201009 Tasmania

Finally! I finished uploading the pictures that I took in Tasmania last Sept. I like Tasmania; the lifestyle is very laid back. It's no wonder the Australian folks told us that Tasmania is the place that they will choose for retirement!

Voyage de la Vie

Have you watched it? This had been premiering since Jun 2010 but I only watched it last week. I enjoyed the show very much - love the costume, love the music and love the death-defying performance! I had to admit that I was slightly taken aback when the performers started appearing from behind us. Yeah! From BEHIND!! Some children and even adults had a fright! Still, I must say this show is good!!

Voyage de la Vie, "Journey of Life" is a 90 minute fast pace fantasy show that tells the story of a young man on an adventure to discover his identity. It is told through energetic dance, athletic circus acts, and catchy songs.

My favourite character/performer - Martti Peltonen, the crossbow artist!

He's cool, isn't it?

As usual, no photography and videography are allowed in the theatre, hence I have no photos to share. Might as well just sit back and enjoy the show! In fact we had rather good views - 5th row from the stage.

Verdict : 4 popcorns (out of 5)

Sunday randoms

Today, I found....

1) .... 5 covers lens filters (besides the 77mm Polarizer and UV filter, where had the rest gone to?)

2) and that I MAY have to 'upgrade' my dry box. That little space is for my 500D body and 24-105mm lens.
